Secretly Yours
The journey to Ba Sing Se had been a long and frustrating one. On the way, Zuko and his Uncle Iroh had gotten on each others nerves, especially with little to no sleep, hardly anything worth calling food, and being pursued by the entire Fire Nation. He was starting to lose hope. But there was still enough hope to hold onto, thanks to his uncle. Somehow Iroh always seemed to believe in him, no matter how many screw-ups Zuko made. He tried to learn from his mistakes though, he didn't like to have any weaknesses. With the last few months of chasing around the Avatar, coming so close just to have him slip through his fingers, Zuko was slightly relieved to enter Ba Sing Se. He was getting tired, mentally and physically, which was never a good thing when it came to his temper. Zuko was sick with the idea of him and his uncle living with a bunch of Earth Benders, and he couldn't shake the thought of being labeled a peasant, among all the other things he had been called. But he knew he was strong. That he would someday reclaim his rightful place, as heir to the thrown of the Fire Nation. But for now he just had to make do, and try to blend in.

After being assigned to a small, filthy, two bedroom apartment in the Lower Ring, Zuko's gut just sank. This would require a lot of work. At least it would keep him busy. Among everything else, he had to deal with his damn teenage hormones. With every free second his brain had, the more erotic thoughts kept popping into his head. Involving icy blue eyes that seemed so familiar. Zuko shook, and tried to clear his mind.

"Well, this place needs to be burned down. But since that might raise suspicions, we'll need to start cleaning." Zuko said as he looked for some rags.

Iroh just grinned. " While you get started on that, I'm going to the market. We will need some supplies. I will see you in a little bit."

Zuko just grumbled and began to work.

After two hours of steady scrubbing, the place was looking half-way decent. He had just sat down for a quick rest when Iroh came back, with more bags than it looked like he could carry.

"I got a few things to make this place feel more like home," Uncle Iroh said as he dumped some things on the table, " I also found us some jobs at the tea shop around the corner."

Zuko just rolled his eyes, "That's just what I wanted do. Like we don't spend enough time living and breathing everything tea."

"It will be good for you Prince Zuko, to do something constructive, and who knows, you just might find a lady friend." He said with a wink.

That was the last thing Zuko wanted to think of.

"And we start work tomorrow afternoon"

Zuko just sighed, " Fine. I'm going into the village to look around." And with that he got up and strode out the door.

After the big fiasco at the Earth King's party, Aang, Katara, Sokka and Toph were all in a sour mood. They felt like they had hit a dead end.

"What are we gonna do if no one here is even gonna help us stop this war?" Toph said as she plopped down on a mat.

Katara sat beside her, "We'll figure it out. We just have to. Everything will work out."

"Ya, don't worry. The Boomer-Aang team will come up with something," replied Sokka as he stretched out on the floor.

Katara snapped, " STOP trying to come up with a name for us! It's just so childish."

"Hey, I'm not childish! I'm a warrior, and every good group needs a name!"

Katara just rolled her eyes.

"That's enough you two!" Aang said, "We have to find Appa and then find someone who can help us. The end of summer is coming quicker and quicker, and there's still a lot that has to be done!"

Everyone was quiet, deep in thought. It felt like they weren't getting anywhere.

"Well," offered Toph, "we can at least keep asking around."

"Yeah," replied Sokka as he was stretching,"if only people weren't so afraid talk."

Toph flexed, "I have ways of making people talk."

"No, that would would definitley get the Dai Li's attention." Aang was starting to get tired.

Katara was lightly tracing her fingers over the mat, "Hey! I have an idea. How about we make some posters? Then we'll just distribute them everywhere we can. It's a real good chance Appa's still in Ba Sing Se, and someone would have seen a giant flying bison."

Sokka sat up, "And once again we're back to everyone not wanting to talk to us."

"Do you have any better ideas? Your just soo all knowing." Katara shot back at him.

"Well, I say we sleep on it and figure out what to do in the morning. I'm beat. Nite." Toph got up and started for her bedroom.

"Sounds like a good idea," Aang said. Everyone agreed. "Good night."

Even though it wasn't really that late, they had done a lot that day. It didn't take long for everyone to fall asleep. All except for Sokka that is. He knew that he should be sleeping too, but his mind just wouldn't shut off. Sokka was in bed for a good hour, but he was to wound up to sleep. He kept tossing and turning, and after awhile he got up. "Maybe I'll just go for a walk. Clear my head," he thought to himself. He got dressed and headed out.

Zuko wasn't going anywhere in particular, and just kind of roamed, taking in the city. Maybe their stay wouldn't be so bad. The place was alive with so many different kinds of people. After a while Zuko hopped up to sit on a barrel. He was scanning the crowds, not really paying attention when he noticed a pair of icy blue eyes. Then he paused to take in the full face. He did a double take. He couldn't believe his luck! Right in front of him was Sokka, the Water Tribe guy who was traveling with the Avatar. He jumped down and nearly started to run after him, until Zuko reminded himself that he was surrounded by Earth Kingdom people. So instead he decided to follow Sokka, seeing what he was up to. It seemed like all he was doing however, was window shopping, and after awhile it got kinda boring. He did notice Sokka trying to impress every girl he came across, like he had something to prove. Yet, at the same time it looked like he was also eyeing every guy he passed. Zuko knew teenage hormones were a bitch. Fortunately for him, he didn't have time to think about such things. At least not all of time. If he kept his mind busy. Which he wasn't doing right now, because Sokka had started to speed up and it took a few seconds for Zuko to realize this.

He had to walk fast to keep up. Even though he was being careful, maybe Sokka had spotted him. It was getting late and the crowds were starting to thin out. Even the shops were starting to close up. Every once in awhile Zuko would lose sight of him. He spotted him once more, and saw Sokka looking back at him. Their eyes locked, but only for a moment. Something twisted in Zuko's stomach. All of a sudden Sokka darted through a door, and Zuko started running. By the time he made it into the shop however, it was to see Sokka going out another door, in the back . Cursing himself for his stupidity, he went for the door. When Zuko made it out though, it was into an empty alley. He looked everywhere, going from one end of the alley to the other, but there was no sign of him. Frustrated and disappointed, he stormed back home.

Zuko went straight to his bedroom to think. He couldn't believe those eyes belonged to Sokka. Why didn't he realize this before? He'll definitley clear his mind of Sokka now. It just wasn't acceptable for him to think of another man like this. Young man, he corrected himself. Even though Zuko knew that women just didn't do anything for him, he would never let anyone know. Besides he knew how to live a lie. He was doing it right now. He sighed. Laying on his bed, he tried to think of some sort of plan. He obviously had to keep his eyes open when he went out and about. Sokka wouldn't be here alone. The avatar must be with him. He was contemplating on whether or not to tell his uncle, when his eyes began to shut.

Before he knew it, he was asleep. In his dreams Zuko could see Sokka, only they were very close and he felt a rush of excitement. Sokka was so tanned, like he had been kissed by the sun. He wanted to reach out his hand to see how warm his skin was. But this wasn't right, they were enemies. He shouldn't feel this way. Zuko woke up sweaty and quite aroused. He rolled over and tried to think of other things. Anything. But no matter how hard he tried though, his thoughts drifted back to Sokka, and icy blue eyes, until he fell back to sleep.

Sokka made it home and burst through the door. Exhausted from running so far, he collapsed on his bed. Everyone was still sleeping. He couldn't believe what happened. He was so, so...excited. It was hard to believe. Being watched so closely, and being chased was just thrilling. He knew it was wrong, that Zuko was dangerous. But he couldn't help it. Maybe that's what made it so appealing. He remembered the first time he ever met Zuko. It was when Sokka and his sister found Aang, and the Fire Nation ship landed right in his village. He was in awe when Zuko walked off the ship, and he froze momentarily. A little to long, since he got knocked on his ass. It had been a long time since Sokka had seen another man, let alone one close to his own age. As it was, he was the oldest boy left to look after his tribe when his father and the other men went to fight in the war. The rest were just older women and younger girls, most of which were related to him. Not that he wasn't into girls, but he seemed to like men even more. But only he knew that. At least he was pretty sure his sister didn't know, and even if she did he didn't think she would say anything anyway. Since then though, and through all their previous encounters, it was all about Zuko chasing them around, trying to catch Aang. He knew it was an impossible relationship that could never work. Zuko was the enemy. But it never hurt to fantasize, did it? It seemed like he was attracted to people who weren't saints. It made it more fun. Who didn't like to bend rules every once in awhile? So when sleep finally came over him, it was filled with dreams of Zuko.
